About Us

Aaniin – Boozhoo! Welcome!

Northport Indian UMC is a group of primarily Native American believers who gather to learn to walk in the Jesus Way. All people are welcome to attend!

Come for fellowship and coffee with the pastor at 10:30am. The 11:00am service follows the fellowship time (usually a little after 11:00am).

Our services often include traditional Native American style songs on a hand drum, along with a blend of hymns and contemporary songs. We hope to bridge the gap between the Anishinaabe cultural traditions and the teachings of Jesus.

Our Church was established as a mission Church about 160 years ago for the local Native American people living in the area–called Anishinaabe, which means ‘The People’. The local Natives are part of the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians.

Northport Indian UMC is affiliated with the United Methodist Church (UMC) that bases its teachings on the Bible, with a New Testament priority. The UMC traces its contemporary founding back to John Wesley.
